I am wanting to buy a hair clipper set on ebay. Please help.?

I want to get an affordable one that isnt crap. Which should I get? How many clipper attachments do I need? When I go to the barber, I always say 1 or 1 1/2 or 3 1/2 or 4. What do these equate to in length? If possible, please send me a link to the ebay auction you recommend and why you recommend it.

I think Wahl is a great brand for clippers. In the link below, I found a great deal on clippers for ya. Wahl can be fairly expensive and I use wahl clippers in my salon and they've never failed me. The one is this auction has everything for a cheap price. good luck, hope this helps!

Obama now must have his barber?

come to him???? he has been going to the same barber for 15 years????
Ok why does this guy need a barber he cant operate a set of clippers????If you can trim a tennis ball you can give a barry doo.
Why are we spending tax money on this.

You have got to be kidding. Do you know how many pals came along with Georgie Boy to the White House? Nobody ever expanded the size of the government like the Bush administration. Besides, I'll bet the barber you mention works pretty cheap. Don't you figure there's always been a barber on staff at the White House? A cooking staff, gardeners, security, housekeeping, etc.? Think about it. It's where the PRESIDENT lives.

What? Most people don't cut their own hair.

Funny. Yeah, a pair of snips would do the job.

Sort of reminds me of Clinton's $200 haircut...

Are we spending tax money on this ? Do you have a link -news source ?
Just curious .

No one wants him to come into there shop for fear of retaliation of being a supporter of an tennis ball doo.

Yeah, I wonder how much his hair cuts are going to cost.

obama gets his hair cuts with his money! where'd u get this shiet? lou dobbs?
the economy's in a crisis, and you're here acting up about a barber? interesting.

Because it's the custom and it is cheaper, believe it or not. All the presidents have barber's come to THEM. So do the wives of the presidents. It would cost the government MORE money to have a motorcade with Secret Service all around take him to the shop, than the barber come to him.

The president of the United States is not a normal private citizen any longer, he is the head of the country. He has a target on his head, and all presidents have to have Secret Service security forces around him at all times.

When he is to go into a public place there are all kinds of safety procedures done BEFORE the president is allowed at that place (including dogs, men/women, cops, etc). Then a full force of Secret Service personnel to guard him from harm. Again, that costs MORE money in dollars and manpower than having ONE person come to the White House.

The president has to give up many personal freedoms (IE. walks alone in the park, his blackberry, cellphone and no texting, going grocery shopping, etc. things we take for granted... all his calls are recorded and all conversations in the oval office are recorded - even when he is talking to his wife and children. Private quarters are different.) and he needs to be protected from lunatics wanting to harm him, at all and any cost. He makes a meager salary, compared to many CEOs, lawyers, doctors, etc. even though he has the top job in the country with a whole heckava lot more responsibility and stress.

Any president deserves this, no matter the political party. I bet he'd rather go to his shop though. But, he will not have that choice any longer.

Is this a good deal for a new barber?

I went to barber school and finished about three months ago. This place wants to hire independent contractors, but also sets the prices for work. For example, if you have a crew cut and just need it touched up with electric clippers, that's $8. Regular hair cut is $12. Shampoo, cut and blow dry is $16. A beard trim or shave is $8. Manicure is $10 and so on.
The prices are moderate to low. They claim to have a high volume. To work there, you have to hand over 50% of your sales (they don't touch your tips) and you have to supply all your own equipment, towels, shampoo, etc. They want you to gurantee them $400 per week, which means $800 is work or 67 men's hair cuts at $12.
This is an "old school" mens barber shop. No women customers. Most workers are old pros who can do your hair with mostly clippers and little if any shears in about 10 minutes or less.
I don't have that experience and can't work that fast. I don't want to get fired after my 1st week. Does this seem like a good deal?
As for towels, I don't have to wash them at home or in a laundromat. They supply a washer and dryer. I have to keep up with them myself. I will need 4 dozen towels to start at a cost of $16 per dozen. I have to keep my work area clean. There are no helpers. You just get the space and work in it.
That's my fear. Week one, maybe all I get is $400, so I work for nothing. After 2-3 weeks maybe more. Might take months to get a good following. I'm going to ask them to take 50% without the guaranteed $400 for the first month or so.

Sounds like a good way to gain some experience, and then move on if something better comes along. I know a lot of people who work this way, contracting the space and so on. It seems to be an industry standard.

If they actually have a contract, read it thoroughly before signing it, and if there's a stipulation about paying them out-of-pocket if 50% of your sales don't come to the $400, you can reconsider.

I'd look around a bit, first, to see if I could find a better deal and if not go ahead and go for it. If I figure it right, that's about 12 to 14 haircuts a day, five days per week. You may have to work longer hours at first to get the number of cuts you'll need, but after a few months, it'll be old hat to you. Just get there a little early, take half an hour for lunch and plan to stay a bit late if you need to.

The main thing, at first, will be getting good cuts. The more you do, the faster you'll get at it, so don't let that bother you. The better the guys' hair looks, the more pleased they'll be and the better tips you'll get... which will be even better. You'll have people coming in asking for you to do their haircuts and then you'll have a regular clientele that may actually follow you if you were to go someplace else in say, a year or so... if you decide to. You'll get the hang of doing it faster over time, and then you'll be able to make some good money and be doing what you like at the same time.

Should I go to barber school? Can I get a license without school?

I cut hair in my spare time for people I know. White, black, hispanic, asian, its all good.
I specialize in clipper cuts. I can do a flat top better than any barber I know in my town.
A have a decent Wahl clipper and two Wahl trimmers, one regular the other set up as a T edger.
I probably have 20 regulars and that number grows by 1-2 a month. I charge $10 for a haircut. I'm as good as any shop that charges $15-20 for a haircut. I charge $5 for a shampoo or beard/mustache trim. I'm practicing on myself with straight razor and getting good.
Could I just take the test? Barber school would be expensive, plus I have a full time job I can't afford to give up. I'm not interested in doing manicures, women's hair, etc, just "old school" men's barbering. Most schools teach so much more than I'd ever use. I think I'd make a better living as a barber than my present job, but I don't know if I can afford the career change. Thanks for your help.

they do have barber schools that dont do women's hair,nails..ect...it's not to badly expensive..where i live my friend goes to it and its like 1000 dollars for like 3 months..and the guy then gives you a job..
