Where can I get a 2 inch guide comb for a hair clipper?
Aug 16, 2007 by humebudde | Posted in Hair
I need to find a hair clipper that will cut my hair at 2 inches, and being that I have a hair clipper that uses those plastic guide combs I figured I'd look for a 2 inch one, but to no avail. Does anyone know where I could get one that size? Or is there some alternative clipper / trimmer/ buzzer that will cut my hair at 2 inches? Thanks in advance for any input.
I've tried Sally's beauty supply stores and they don't carry 2 inch guide combs. When I talked to the lady that worked there she said the she had never heard or seen 2 inch guide combs before. Everyone I have talked to has never seen or heard of em before. But I just can't see how no one has manufactured this before, at the very least as a custom or special order item. If anyone knows where I can get a 2 inch guide comb or a clipper / buzzer / trimmer of some sort that will cut my hair at 2 inches, I'd very much appreciate it if you would point in me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
Try a beauty supply store, or ebay. Also, you could search for one using the 'shopping' header on Yahoo.

How do you use the guide combs to cut hair with clippers?
Jul 15, 2008 by cyn_texas | Posted in Hair
I bought clippers with all the attachments on ebay without instructions. I don't want to shave my head, how do you use the guide combs to cut hair with clippers?
Thank you for your answer. I did figure out what the guides were for, but I didn't understand how to use them. Do you clip up or down against head? Flat against head as if you were shaving head?
Grab one of the attachments. Hold it up and look at the thickness of the plastic. That's how much hair will be left. The thinnest attachment is a #1 That will leave the hair with a shadow length. Just before bald. The fattest attachment should be a #8 or #6 that will leave the hair about an inch or an inch and a half long. These attachments are for mens cuts only.
Just start with the biggest attachment first. You can always cut more off. Start with the #8, work your way down to the thinner attachment.

Always try to buzz against the grain of your hair with even pressure all over. Also you should keep the guide to a slight angle with the tip of the guide closer to the scalp than the back of the guide.

Hair clippers? How do the depth guides work?
Apr 10, 2007 by thumperings | Posted in Hair
Hi! I was wondering how those removable plastic "depth" guides work on hair clippers. They don't make any sense to me. If you put one of those on, and ranor over your scapt, I don't see how it would stop the hair from being cut right next to the scalp the hair can still enter and the clippers ARE right next to the scalpt. I just don't get how they work. I see the teeth they have, but it appears as though this would merely comb the hair, not protect the hair form being cut too short. I just don't get it . thanks
The gaurds are marked for different lengths... ranging from 1/4 inch up to I think 1 inch.... These are true honest incraments... not a fictional 1/4 inch that most people think of as 3/4 of an inch... <believe me I have had people in the chair asking for a trim saying an inch.. you take off a factual inch they freak.. then show you what they thought was an inch to be 1/4 of an inch>.....
When the gaurd is held properly at the scalp it will cut the exact incrament it is marked to cut to.... If your honestly thinking about using clippers with a gaurd to do a hair cut.. start out EXTRA long.. you can always go shorter if you wish...

Now that I have a WAHL clipper, help me learn it?
Mar 19, 2008 by chasvanblom | Posted in Hair
I have bought a pair of Wahl(r) brand hair clippers. This set (2) are the "PROFESSIONAL DUO" that are sold together.
I am still learning more "HOW TO's" with trimming my beard.
The larger clipper (with the 1 3/4 inch blade) has a "Taper lever" that I can change the closeness of the cut.
I try to trim my beard to a "short" (clean) 1/2 inch length.
Is the "taper lever" supposed to help me trim my beard to a shorter length (without the detatchable cutting guides) or does this lever adjust the blades to result in a different type of cut?
I normlly use the detachable cutting guides to clip to an "even" look around my face.
Thanks for suggestions.
I believe you are speaking of a small lever that adjusts the blades. When it is all the way down, it is next to your skin and called 0 guard. Put lever up and you are at 1/2 guard, attach your #1 guard and put lever back down you are at 1/8" of hair left, lever up, #1 1/2 , which is 3/8" hair left. Attach #2 guard, lever down, 1/2" of hair left. It goes on until you run out of guards. So you need lever down and #2 guard. Good luck.
