I use a postal clipper sharpening service - although this is for my horse clippers not small clippers - but I am sure that the company that I use do all sorts of blades.

THe company I use it Clipper Sharp - www.clippersharp.com - they are very reasonable for sharpening blades

I was gonna go with the wahl balder ultra close clippers but then I saw some self sharpening carbon blade ones.....any help is greatly appreciated.

I would get the self sharpening ones. I've never seen them.Usually you have to buy a hole new set.

Plently of dog shows down that way. Go to a show and for about $7 get your blade sharpened and take it home with you too. Lots of good shopping usually.

How can I learn to sharpen clipper blades?

I have been trying to find out how to learn to sharpen clipper blades. I have looked on the Oster and Andis websites, but I don't find any information. How do you get certified?

I'm not sure if Spyderco sharpening sets specifically talk about nail clippers, but I do know they have instructions on how to sharpen all sorts of things. You could probably give them a call and they could at least let you know if that's something they have instruction on. At least at a veterinary clinic we had one of these. Generally I'd have to order new grit about every six months, but we also sharpened most all the blades in that region of Kansas, including barber shops. If there is a certification that you're supposed to have, I'm not aware of it or it fell under one of my other certs.
