Hair Clippers?

I just borrowed some hair clippers and I want to cut my hair using a number 3 (10mm). I can't quite figure out how to get the clipper guard onto the actually trimmer. Any ideas?

Usually clipper gards go on the blade by slipping the front part of the trimmer in the plastic teeth of the Gard and then they snap on the clipper by pushing down at the back of the Gard.
Or may be you are joking and you don't' want to use a Gard !!!

I've been using clippers all my life and I think it has caused my hair on my sides to grow straight out instead of down. How can I make my hair on my sides to go straight down while being short, kinda like David Beckham's hair. Can clippers be used going downward instead of against the grain and maybe it won't cause the hair to grow outwards?

You can use the clippers going down but it won't get all the hair.

Try getting a strong pomade and like you said, train it down.

I have some Andis clippers now but it takes me about 30-40 mins to cut my hair. They are about 1 yr old and have been the same since I bought them. Where can I find some good ones that'll cut my hair the first time and I don't have to pass it through my hair 3-4 times.
Thanks for the answers but I don't live in Ohio so I don't need a local barber shop. Any barbers out there know good clippers I can buy.

My dog is old, and his hair has overtaken his legs and actually hinder his movement. I took it for granted that he would pass away before his hair would get so bad, so I figured I'd spare him the trauma of grooming at his age. But he still has spark, but he's miserable because he can't move very well due to the amount of hair. I need to cut him down, but I can't afford a professional groomer and I have no dog hair clippers. Scissors are wholly ineffective for the most troubled areas. Is there any way to loosen tight, matted hair so that I can cut it?
